The University Institute for Research in Police Sciences (IUICP) is a center for training and research in police and forensic matters that directs its lines of action to carry out research projects in the areas related to police investigation, criminology and criminalistics, covering areas such as forensic anthropology, forensic genetics, criminal psychology, acoustics and forensic imagery, and procedural and criminal law, among other lines.
It was inaugurated on June 19, 2007 and was finally approved by the Autonomous Community of Madrid in its Governing Council on March 17, 2011 (BOCM May 13, 2011).
It depends on the University of Alcalá (UAH) and the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior and is governed by the Organic Law 6/2001, of December 21, of Universities; by the Statutes of the University of Alcalá; by the Basic Regulation of Internal Regime of the University Research Institutes of the University of Alcalá; by the Collaboration Agreement established between the Secretary of State for Security and the University of Alcalá and by the Regulations of the Internal Regime of the IUICP. The Institute is a member of the Ibero-American Academy of Criminalistics and Forensic Studies (AICEF) and participates of its Academic Professionalization Committee.
